Reasonable biography, but I am irritated he assumes GKC exaggerated his absentmindedness. I can duplicate from my own experience every example Barker gives of "unbelievable" stories about this.
Well written biographies of four Edwardians, a parallel to Strachey's Eminent Victorians. Most notable is Sir Arthur Fisher, First Lord of the Admiralty who was instrumental in updating the Royal Navy just prior to the first world war. Very readable; I would enjoy other books by this author.
