The Mistress Of Shenstone (1910) di Florence L. Barclay

If you enjoyed The Rosary by the same author, do yourself a favor and read this too. It has many of the same characters, although their relative importance to the story has changed. Lady Myra Ingleby is the center of this novel. It's as sweet and romantic as The Rosary.

The Rosary di Florence L. Barclay

Can I give this 6 stars? Or more? It was so, so sweet, and I am learning that I really love these obscure books written around the turn of the 20th century. The dialogue was rich and thoughtful and the characters were all just entirely lovable. There was a strong sense of nobility, dignity, and faithfulness that was part of the plot. It was just great.

The Wheels of Time di Florence L. Barclay

As another reviewer stated, this book is not too profound, but it is definitely of interest to those who have already read The Rosary and The Mistress of Shenstone. I would advise reading those other books first--or at least The Rosary. Then come back to The Wheels of Time, and you already know and respect and love Dr. Deryck Brand, but you don't know much about him. Then and only then will this book be an intriguing read. A bonus is that Jane Champion plays a sizable role!

El rosario di Florence L. Barclay

En la obra, el amor que siente Garth por Jane está lleno de cortesía y de respeto, al mismo tiempo que de devoción, de perseverancia y de mesura que no empañan el ardor de la pasión. Jane al considerarse una mujer fea, no cree que el amor de Garth, apasionado por todo cuanto sea bello, pueda soportar el paso del tiempo, al no ser el suyo “uno de esos rostros que se desearía tener siempre ante la vista y que hacen pensar con deleite en la posibilidad de verlos todos los días ante la mesa”. La inseguridad de Jane lleva a la pareja a una dolorosa separación, que según la fe religiosa de ambos es la cruz que deben soportar.… (altro)
