Not sure I understood this book any more than the one ("Recursion") than came before it. Hard to follow the plot and how the story lines support one another, but I do find the author's ideas interesting.
Hard science parts made my head hurt, never really understood how all the pieces (three different story lines) fit together.
I gave up after a few chapters of being bored by blue-collar fishermen robots talking about inane shit. Nothing about it felt like they were robots, other than the prose reminded me of it by talking about the gears.

The story isn't brilliant but it holds its own. The premise is fun and the imagery is sometimes amusing, sometimes twisted and sometimes brutal.
