The perfect collection for spooky season. Seriously, I got chills! Special shout-out to the diversity of the characters in this collection and the LGBTQIA representation. This book is full of nightmares, and imagery that really brings them to life. It might be short stories, but each one is chock-full of horror. I do have to warn you - this is VERY dark and might not hit quite right for a lot of readers, so be warned going in. A few of the stories definitely could've been expanded at least into novella length, I think, not that I mind a few loose ends when it comes to horror. If I had to pick a favorite, I think I'd go with Torture Device. Honestly, just pick up this book and read it with the lights on!… (altro)
First, let me say, you really need to read book one before diving into this one. It is a bit gory, but not overly so. I do like that the world building is just as rich as in the first book, and we get a little more insight. It certainly started off much faster than book one, and the pace stayed quick, which was nice. There were plenty of twists to keep you guessing, and it was easy to get lost in the story. A good read, but definitely start with book one.
A dark fantasy that will capture your imagination. The world building was brilliant, and will absolutely transport you to a new universe. Each of the characters is complex, with various flaws and goals that drive them. The story gains momentum as you go, and soon you'll be turning pages late into the night. I would've liked a little more information about the magic system and certain aspects of the world, but I found the book overall enjoyable. Looking forward to reading book two!
