- Breve biografia
- Stef Aupers (1969) is a sociologist of culture at the Sociology Department of the Erasmus University Rotterdam. With Dr. Anneke van Otterloo (University of Amsterdam) he wrote New Age: een godsdiensthistorische en sociolologische benadering (“New Age: a historical and sociological approach”; Kok, 2000). He published articles in national and international journals on new manifestations of spirituality in a secular, rationalized and ‘disenchanted’ world. This is also the theme of his dissertation In de ban van Moderniteit. De sacralisering van het zelf en computertechnologie (“Under the Spell of Modernity. The Sacralization of Self and Computer Technology”; Aksant, 2004). For doing research on the re-enchantment of computer technology in Silicon Valley, he received a Fulbright Scholarship from the Netherlands America Commission for Educational Exchange.
