On a technical front, maybe, just maybe, there are things to learn; the Obama push for the Presidency was, we learn, fuelled by the use of computers and social networking. My concern is that this may well have caused Obama's message to become all things to all men. This is great for the process of getting elected, but inevitably leads to disappointment in the aftermath of the poll, when he cannot please all the people who voted for him.
I would not wish to be rude about American politics - heaven knows, there is enough for which to rebuke the British system - but I am not at all sure that I wish to be taking lessons from a country that takes Sarah Palin seriously! This may seem like a cheap jibe from across the Atlantic, but is not so meant. America is not more stupid than Britain, it is simply ahead of us in a depressing descent.
I feel very elitist to be offering advice to the highly educated writers of this book, but I would suggest that allowing a little time for the dust to settle before reaching conclusions, or at least, before putting same to paper, might lead to a touch less egg on the face.… (altro)
