A good read but would be a much better read if I had already read the previous books in the set. A lot of building on the before to create the what-is-happening now.

Anders did a wonderful job on this book, number 3, in a series. I started with book three as an early reviewer and was not disappointed. This book reads well as a stand alone novel. It grabs your attention from the beginning, provides a smidgen of back story in a smart way, and moves the story forward with unforgettable moments of surprise.
This is a time jumper story requiring a complex weave of past, present, future using historical data and a creative imagination. Anders does a superb job on keeping the reader engaged in a very human drama of complex characters experiencing their present and coming to terms with their past and knowing, without change, what a future will look like.
Compelling, ceative, and a must read for for time-travel bookies but also for first time tryers. Now, I am off to get books 1 and 2 in the series to understand Anders full story!

I was intrigued by the synopsis on thenLT ER page, but was disappointed in the book. The story is set in the future in a dystopian society, but there’s no backstory or world building on how the world came to be. There’s no character development or introductions, either.

First of all, I am not a native English speaker, so some of these things may sound a bit akward. This said, a few things, I've found the vocabulary quite varied.
Being a second part, if you haven't read the first one,as it is my case, you miss many references and character's background. I felt quite disturbed with the idea of joining one god=order and law, and many gods=chaos. Other aspects like I kill (I feel bad), but I am one of the good ones, is something you expect. I do not feel at ease with the Roman Empire presented, it seems almost every soldier is a centurion, and surnames like Henry for a Roman soldier?
Apart from that, it is easy to read and you can follow the story (apart from the references) without problems.
