Blake Allwood

August resides in the retirement community where his grandfather lived before going into a nursing home. August, who lost a television music contest, entertains with his band on the "retirement community" circuit. Ted has come to visit with his grandfather after his band's tour is over. Ted sees August have a fight with his band member. When the band member leaves, Ted goes over to see if August needs any help. August does not recognize Ted as a rockstar. Ted shows that he can play guitar. August asks if he could help with the day's show. Ted does. The two men are attracted to each other and spend time together. Ted helps August with other shows. August also calls old band members to help him on his "tour." His friends recognize Ted. August's father also gets out of jail and comes looking for August. Things get rough for August. Can he continue his "tour"? Will his father leave? Will Ted stay?

I liked this book a lot. I liked August's shyness and how he is just himself. He is awed when he learns who Ted is. He is also awed by the help Ted gives him including bringing another band member from his group to play for the summer with them. I liked that Ted introduced August to his manager. I loved the way August wrote songs, how all the group worked on them together with just a piece of melody going through August's mind and made a song out of it. I liked that when things got tough for August, no one bailed on him. I enjoyed watching Ted show August his worth, standing with him with his father and ex-band member went after August in court. I was rooting for the two of them the whole way.
