Sull'Autore

Richard Alleine 1611-1691: Richard Alleine was born in 1611. In 1641 he became rector of Batcomb in Somersetshire, southwest of London. He was a subscriber to the Solemn League and Covenant, a noted non-conformist. Richard, brother of the more famous Joseph Alleine (author of An Alarm to the mostra altro Unconverted), ministered in the Batcomb church for more than twenty years, but was ejected in 1662 for his non-conformity. He was a prudent, diligent, and zealous but meek instructor of his flock. He was much respected and well known for his pious, practical writings. Though he was often in trouble with the authorities for continuing to preach, his gravity, piety, and goodness were so conspicuous that his enemies knew they would do more harm than good to their own cause by sending such a man to prison. After the Five Mile Act, which forbade non-conformist ministers to come within five miles of a church or school, Richard Alleine moved to Froom Selwood, and preached there privately until his death on December 22, 1691 mostra meno
