Akermanis played his last AFL match in 2010 so this book is written at the conclusion of his career. In keeping with his high achieving but controversial career this book is at times revealing and controversial.
The Brisbane Lions Brownlow Medallist and three time premiership player, tells his story in a characteristically outspoken, honest style. Akermanis describes his humble upbringing, growing up without his father, the early death of his mother and his career at Brisbane during its most successful era. He concludes with thoughts on the 2004 Grand Final loss to Port Adelaide. There are no career statistics, or lists of great players he has seen, but plenty of insight into this star's emotions, motivations and relationships with his family, wife and coaches at Brisbane.… (altro)
A bit different from usual memoirs. Tough upbringing - no father figure and lost mother to cancer when he was just starting his AFL career. At the height of his popularity and brillance as a footballer, when written.
A good solid biography giving some insight into AKA's life and thoughts. Fascintating.
