- Claudius Aelianus, commonly known as Aelian, was a Roman author and teacher of rhetoric who flourished under Septimius Severus. He wrote in Greek, and is known chiefly for his "De Natura Animalium" and "Varia Historia."

I'm so glad Aelian VH finally joined the Loeb family. The only downside is that what was once a special possession—I've read it and you haven't!—is now so very accessible. I still have Arrian's Cynegetica—they'll never make a Loeb out out that!
