So this is a YA book, and I think if I were more YA and less A (going by the idea that YAs are not actually young As but are instead Ts, teens) I might have enjoyed it more. I LOVED THAT THE MAIN CHARACTER wasn't following the typical graduate-high-school-must-go-to-college path!!! So much. It's not for everyone, and that needs to be recognised. But I didn't see enough of her relationship with Seth developing, or really why it developed, to believe some of the later parts, and I felt like the ending was far too peg-in-hole. I wish I had seen more independence, and I expected that from the premise.… (altro)

I was tempted to give this book a 100 stars, because it really was THAT fantastic. As soon as I saw it at the library I was hooked by the premise, and the more I read, the more I fell in love with it. I hated putting this book down, and soon I’ll have my own copy for my bookshelf. ⁣
Just like “Want”, this book was so deeply honest and relatable about friendship and motherhood that it felt like the author held a magnifying glass to my soul. The author has a way of making us feel Amanda’s pain and her postpartum depression, and all I wanted to do was give her a hug and offer to help. Flashbacks to Carrie and Amanda’s past show how someone can or cannot reconcile their past self with their present. Each character is strong and well developed. I also loved the character of Carrie, and she reminded me of an old friend. I grew up in a similar small town just like Deerling, and my friends and I felt the same longing in our adolescence to escape and live a bigger life, just like Amanda and Carrie did. There is a part of this book that makes it unique, but I promise not to spoil anything for you.⁣
I really wish this book could have been 100 or 500 more pages. I wanted to spend more time with Carrie and Amanda, and I wasn’t ready to say goodbye. I sincerely hope that the author writes a sequel someday or someone develops this into a TV show!

Filled with the complexities of motherhood, trauma, friendship, and womanhood, I was totally swept into this beautifully written novel. There is nothing like finding a new author to love and follow along with and I can’t wait to see what Emily Adrian writes next.
