Breve biografia
It’s wonderful for a writer to live near Washington, DC as I do. The research resources are fabulous, the scenery is great – complete with monuments, gorgeous public buildings, and the most amazing, weird, convoluted, political people – and I get to be here with the most awesome family, friends and neighbors in the world. I live here with my wonderful husband (he’s my personal hero), my two delightful, growing-too-fast sons, and my three very active dogs, all of whom are rescues.

As a former marketing executive, I worked for research parks, governmental concerns and not-for-profits, (which is also great fodder for the writer’s mind!) but now I’m happily employed as a full-time writer and consultant. I’m a member of Romance Writers of America, Mystery Writers of America, Science Fiction Writers of America and Thriller Writers. I’m also a proud member of both the Washington Romance Writers and the Maryland Romance Writers, my local RWA chapters, as well as several online RWA chapters.

One of the most enjoyable things I get to do as a consultant and writer, is to teach. I enjoy connecting with my clients, readers and other writers. In addition to my marketing work, I have degrees in residential and commercial interior design and landscape design. Based on my research, I teach a class called Creating the Write Environment. Having also worked in the funeral and cemetery business for nearly thirteen years, I teach a class on Body Disposal. I’m also delighted to teach a class called Limbo-Limbo or Surviving Till you Get THE CALL. You can check those out on the Classes page.

Being part of the Adams Family, as you can imagine, Halloween is my favorite holiday. I love to work in the garden, run my dogs, hang out with my family, and write. Other than that, as the late Anne McCaffrey used to say, the rest is subject to change without notice.

Welcome to Outcast Station
Science fiction anthology.

The Accidental Plague by Jeanne Adams
Outcast Station is the outer most post for the universe. BVax Scientist Ravinisha is grateful to have the prestigious job. In the past, her hereditary would have caused her to be discriminated against. Yes, there are problems aimed directly at her but she also has the support of management which is new. Maybe this job will work out.

Not everything is roses for Ravi, but she’s made a friend in her coworker. They appreciate science together and even do some singing. A plague or disease has hit the space station and when it’s impacted 29% and is rapidly climbing, it’s up to Ravi to save the entire population.

Engaging and suspenseful. It’s a fast moving story that deals slightly with prejudice but stays on the line of “science” is colorblind. Ravi is smart and proves it. I had a minor issue with the language sentence structure in format of Yoda, mostly because it slowed down my reading.
One or two questions unanswered that may be an indication of a series.

The New Badge by Nancy Northcott
Deputy Marshall Hank crossed the wrong supervisor and ends up assigned to Outcast Station. His intent is to lie low, do his job and eventually make it back the center of the galaxy. But his first assignment is a murder on the planet, without any knowledge of the local people or key players, and without any additional Marshall support.

Hank is determined and professional. In his dedication, he’s able to get support and help in the investigation. I admire his perseverance.
It’s an interesting galactic mystery.

I've no idea how I'd go about rating this one, so I'm not going to bother. This is two books by two different authors bundled together. They share a common setting but nothing else (so far as I could tell).

The Accidental Plague by Jeanne Adams focuses on scientist Ravi, newly arrived on the station and keen for people to look past her heritage. Unfortunately, it suffers from an surfeit of tropes and a lack of editing. I didn't finish it after the first few chapters.

The New Badge by Nancy Northcott focuses on Deputy Marshall Hank, another new arrival on the station. Hank's new boss hates him for reasons that are lost on Hank (if not on the reader) and sends him straight out to solve a murder in a remote part of the planet below the station.

I really enjoyed The New Badge. It's a cosy mystery set in space. The characters and the mystery are expertly crafted. What I loved most was the casual diversity and inclusivity in the characters around Hank.

I'll happily read more of Northcott's work. This one struck a great balance between characters and plot. Fresh and engaging but still a nice, light read.

The formatting on this one was awful, though. The first three chapters of the first novel are formatted as chapters – then chapter four plus the whole rest of that novel and the entirety of the second novel are lumped together as chapter four. Really frustrating.

Dead Run by Jeanne Adams

Romantic suspense. Previously titled Dark and Dangerous.
High octane that kept me up into the middle of the night to finish.
A explosive opening with well paced action, powerful family time and, of course, a tantalizing romance. The smart and savvy 10 year old ties it all together with intelligence and charm. Plus the dog? A true hero.

Dana and son Xaviar have been on the run and in hiding for years from her Mobster husband. The FBI hasn’t been successful in keeping them safe so Dana rigs her own home with trip wires, planted bombs and even a safe room in the basement. She’ll do whatever is necessary to keep her son safe and away from his dangerous father.
Caine went undercover to try to keep Dana safe but there is a leak on the FBI side as well. Caine, Dana, Xaviar and trained pet shepherd Shadow travel from safe house to safe house staying just one step ahead from disaster.

4.5 stars. I read a paperback copy printed 2015 that had a dozen and a half text / type proofing errors that always throw me out of the story. Fortunately there were very few in the last 75 pages.
