The title is self-explanatory. Breakup texts, Dear John letters, excommunications and rejection letters. The little kid letters are the best. ( )

This is one of those books that you don't sit and read from cover to cover, although I probably could have. It's really an enjoyable read.

The title describes exactly what it is; the rejections are photographic representations and range from children's scribbles (I hat you. From Phoebe), to rejections of work submitted for publication, to Jimi Hendrix's dishonorable discharge, to a letter requesting clemency, and on the next page, the ultimate rejection - the notice that the execution was carried out.

There is some really interesting stuff here, and I highly recommend it. What I also really liked was the postscript with some info on what happened after some of the rejections.

And I'll always remember the Introduction, where the author shares a rejection note he received in summer camp many years ago - "Billy, I like Jason." ( )

The rejection letters in this book range from hilarious to heartbreaking, recent to historical, romantic to professional. Reading them all at once can be a little depressing, and you might feel a little bad about laughing as you go. But who can help smiling a little at one James Hendrix's discharge from the US Army? At a future First Lady's resignation from the DAR over their refusal to allow Marian Anderson to sing at Constitution Hall? Or cringing at F. Scott Fitzgerald's rambling denouncement of his wife and daughter?

In the back of the book, some of the rejection letters are followed up. The one signed "Mommie" is, out of all of them, still my favorite. ( )

This book was hilarious! It makes me feel bad because I was laughing at some of the letters when I should have felt bad because they lost their job or their girlfriend. Some of the company rejection letters were so sterile, it doesn't even seem like they were written by people.

There were a few letters for a few famous people like Jimi Hendrix and F. Scott Fitzgerald as well. I'm personally happy that Jimi was rejected from the military. ( )

Very funny, except for the one from Disney to a young woman who wanted to be an animation artist. Girls don't do that kind of work, she is told. Girls paint backgrounds. Think how crushed she must have felt. ( )
