This book is about a kid who goes to the fair and learns about fractions, decimals, and percentages to be able to pay for food and games while he is there. This book is a good one to read before a lesson and see if the students understand each page and the vocabulary and if not then the teacher is able to know what part (demicals, fractions, or percentages) he/she needs to focus on more during the lesson. Good for students in grades 4-6. 10/10 recommend. ( )

This book is exactly what the title suggests. It begins with definition of each topic: fractions, decimals, and percents. It thoroughly explains the different ways to write certain numbers and even uses life like examples. Even at the end of the book, it has a game that can be played to learn how to solve problems. ( )

Fractions, Decimals, and Percents is helpful reading material that can discuss this topics in a engaging way. They used a county fair for the illustrations and use different examples to go with that theme. For example, when someone buys cotton candy for .89 cents they say 89 is a part of one dollar. There are 100 cents in one dollar. 89/100 would be the fraction. They would use that same example for decimals and percents. Like, the cotton is 89% of a dollar. The illustrations was really cool. I would show this book to a kid who is not really fond of these topics or needs more visual interaction. ( )

Within the setting of a county fair, the book explores the relationship of fractions, decimals, and percents, describing and showing equivalents as well as providing opportunities for readers to recognize or identify equivalents. For example “Cotton candy might cost 89 cents. An illustration shows signs for “Cotton Candy $0.89” and “Cotton Candy 89% of a dollar.” Young children trying to learn about the relationship among these terms may be confused, but Adler later acknowledges the varying instances when people use one notation or another. In describing decimals and the champion lamb that might cost $999.99, the text details the difference of the value of each of the nines. Colorful cartoon-like illustrations add kid appeal although the percentage of white males dominates the illustrations over females and African-Americans. ( )
