Rick Riordan has made a living writing interesting, relatable characters for a middle-school audience, and this book is no different. The plot revolves around Carter and Sadie Kane, a pair of teens who find out that they are “blood of the pharaohs,” the most powerful descendants of ancient Egyptian kings to be born in 3,000 years. Their mother died under mysterious circumstances six years before the book begins, and when their wandering-archeologist of a father tries to revive the Egyptian gods in a bid to “make things right,” the siblings are launched onto a path of power and world-destroying danger. The story's first person narration is passed between the siblings, which highlights the emotional heart of the novel. This also makes it extremely accessible to both genders. Fans of the Percy Jackson or Harry Potter series will likely enjoy book one of The Kane Chronicles. ( )

read this series back in middle school so I don't really remember much of the plot if I'm going to be honest BUT i do remember enjoying them and loving the sibling relationship between Carter and Sadie. This will be a re-read eventually, as I never got around to reading the 3rd book. ( )

To someone who's relatively new to Egyptian mythology, the graphic novels are a brilliant way to begin and I loved the book one of kane chronicles.

I got to learn a lot about the Egyptian gods and their possible origin stories while I stared in awe at the beautiful illustrations bt Orpheus Collar.

Rick Riordan has a brilliant way of presenting his stories and the characters were lovely. I can't wait to get to book 2. ( )

Fast paced and fun. The Egyptian gods work differently than the Greek/Roman gods so it feels fresh. I'm excited to continue this series! ( )
