Muy buena novela, ambienta en los años anteriores, durante y posteriores a la guerra civil. de una narración muy sencilla y que con ello puede dar noción de lo profundo de los sentimientos del personaje principal. Me la leí de tirón. Muy recomendable. ( )

3484. the time of the doves a novel, by Merce Rodoreda (read Sept 6, 2001) This is a book by a Catalan writer, and was on a list called "the 40 most important books of the last 75 years." I had only read 13 of the 40, so I thought I would read this. It is laid at the time of the Spanish Civil War, and I liked the characters and the ending. There is some power in the narrative and I thought the book strange and touching. ( )

Required reading for one of my honours papers. On first read I found the narration quite chaotic, often with long, not very elegant sentences. However, on subsequent reads I began to enjoy the story very much indeed. ( )

This was highly recommended by the proprietor of the bookshop in Barcelona when I asked for the best novel in Catalan - after he convinced me of the problems with Tirant lo Blanc.
