He is delighting in the law of God after the inward man, but he sees another law in his members; warring against the law of his mind, and bringing him into captivity to the law of sin, which is in his members. Eom. vii, 22, 23.] To such an one, the promise of Christ applies; to him is the invitation given, Come unto Me all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. And in truth there is a need that this should be pointed out to many in the Church of God. After having received Christ, they seem to lose Christ; they forget what the Apostle has written in 1 Cor. i, 30. But of Him are ye in Christ Jesus, who, of God, is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctifieation, and redemptioa Yes, we are forgetting oftentimes that Christ is our sanctification, as well as our justification; and we are terrified as to what appearance we shall hereafter make, even though our sins have been forgiven us, so that we are secured from the danger of being lost. Dear reader, I know well that the believer is called to labour, that Scripture is full of imagery, which shows Him as one, all whose energies are called forth; I know he is a warrior, 1 Tim. vi, 12] and a racer, Heb. xii, 1] and a workman; 2 Tim. ii, 15] still, it is his privilegeto have a quiet mind in Christ; we may be peaceful in our toil; ...… (altro)
