I liked reading "Open Wide: Tooth School Inside" by Laurie Keller for three reasons. First, I found the concept of the book to be useful. The text starts off naming all 32 teeth inside an adult mouth. It has a model that explains what teeth are made of, the importance of baby teeth, the functions of teeth, and all about cavities. Second, the illustrations go along with the text very well (ex. on the page that has the model of what teeth are made of, it has the labels enamel, dentin, pulp, cementum, root, and crown. It also has a picture of what good, healthy teeth look like and what bad, unhealthy teeth look like. Third, I like how there is a true or false and multiple choice quiz in the back of the book. This part of the book is helpful to determine what you learned from the book. "Open Wide: Tooth School inside" has the different teeth act as students and provides information on the structure of teeth and how to take care of them to have a healthy smile. The big idea behind the text is for children to be aware of what they need to do in order to keep their teeth white and healthy! Dr. Flossman welcomes his class of 32 teeth (incisors, canines, premolars and molars) and teaches them lessons about dental hygiene, the roles of teeth, etc. The illustrations are fun, colorful, peppered with little talking teeth along the edges, and plenty of bad puns (Buses going home today might be late because of some bridge work being done.) An entertaining and informative approach to presenting the teeth to young readers. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione

Opinion: It’s pretty funny and interesting. It was my favorite book as a kid and is probably still my favorite children’s book now. I want to do a read-aloud with it soon. ( )
