This book tells myths about dogs from all around the world, from Africa to Japan to North America. Many breeds of dogs are represented, from akitas to poodles to wolfhounds, and all are beautifully illustrated by watercolor paintings by Barry Moser.

A number of these stories were unfamiliar to me although they have much in common with other tales I have read. The book is usually classified with folklore rather than myth but it is a mixture of the two with retellings of thirteen different stories from around the world. Anyway, I have come to see that folklore and myth are closely related and the dividing line rather wiggly. Meant for about 4th to 7th grade but enjoyable by other ages. Also well illustrated with very nice watercolors, this is an attractive book.
