Very good/two brothers attempt to find out why and how their parents died in an auto accident that leads them into conspiracies that may cause war with Ireland or WWI itself. I read this book in a bunch of little chunks and would like to re-read it again straight through in a sitting or two to really soak up the flavor of the times that Perry captures. The characters really grew on me and I look forward to reading the other novels in the series. Perry does a nice job of capturing the idealism of the time. I liked the way Joseph comes to understand how idealistic he'd been, how blinded by what he wanted to see. The Reavley siblings--Joseph, Matthew, and Judith--are devastated by the death of their parents in an automobile accident. When the scene is examined, it appears their demise may have been aided by parties unknown to them. Mr. Reavley planned to share a document of world significance with his son Matthew who works in intelligence. Archduke Franz Ferdinand's assassination occurs early in the story. Soon another friend is killed. Joseph, a Cambridge professor and clergyman, takes a lead role investigating. With a mixture of cozy and espionage genres, this novel just doesn't achieve success in either genre. It's too political for lovers of cozies and too quaint for readers of espionage. Perry's Inspector Monk series is for more enjoyable. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione
