Lucky hasn't had an easy life. He left the military to fight for custody of his little sister Sissy, and little brother Scotty. Scotty happens to have Down Syndrome and was just a baby when it all happened. With the help of the club, Lucky has built a successful business doing art welding and now supports his siblings with no hardships anymore.
Harper is a special education teacher who took a substitute position and is Scotty's teacher now. Her entire family just relocated to the area because her father took a job as the new town sheriff. The first time she meets Lucky she judges him poorly because of his cut and soon realizes the mistake she made.
Once Lucky gets over his issue with their age difference they start seeing each other. Her parents have always been controlling and try to control her dating life too. Her dad tries to set her up with his co-worker Mark. He's heard about Lucky and her and orders it to stop. Mark will now be patrolling around her house and checking in daily. Things start happening around the town and the police are only focused on the MC for the crimes.
I learned in this book alot of the characters aren't what they may seem to be. Harper and Lucky complement each other so well, they're practically perfect. Scotty was one of my favorite characters. The way Elise wrote about his disability was done very accurately and made Scotty stand out more. Bear who is Lucky's best friend was the other character I loved in this book. He was such a funny character. Bear's book is next and I can't wait.
