Entropy takes a new direction for the apocalypse we are all in expectation of. LP does a good job of taking something that doesn’t seem all that interesting—linguistics—and making it so; so much so that you’ll find yourself wanting Helen to delve even deeper and keep searching for answers. Randazz knows how to hold your attention with a harrowingly realistic post-apocalypse. ( )

Fascinating premise presented at a page-turning pace.

Exposition on the theory of language and communication put some science into the fiction. Short chapters ending on cliffhangers move the story forward and keep the reader engaged. A romantic sub-plots felt a distraction to a largely technical mystery thriller. After a delightfully intense drama of sleuthing and survival, the introduction of a MacGuffin character led to an unsatisfying conclusion.

On the whole, a thoroughly enjoyable read. ( )

I was surprised at how much I enjoyed Entropy by L.P. Randazz. Once I picked it up, reading it was the only thing I did until I was done -- it kept me reading long past when I should have gone to bed.

Entropy was the perfect next book for me after finishing Liu Cixin's book The Three Body Problem. Both authors did a great job balancing actual knowledge with imaginary knowledge. It's a fun position for a reader to be in: not knowing how much is truth and fact and how much is invented. Early religion and the development of written language are fundamental to Entropy, and even though I have no background in either, the story was so well written that I followed the premises and enjoyed the mysteries underlying the story. Similar to Dan Brown's The Da Vinci Code -- L.P. Randazz took a strange, arcane topic and built a compelling comtemporary narrative around it.

It's suspenseful with great pacing, it is realistically apocalyptic, and the heroine survives lots of grief and loss -- but the story is ultimately optimistic with some nice twists at the end. Highly recommend -- would read again.

Interesting story about entropy affecting the written word. Lots of linguistic talk, with a strong religious overtone in a post-apocalyptic environment.
Definitely some flaws, action scenes especially, but worth a read if you're into a different setup than the usual disaster stories. ( )
