The characters are complex and have different strengths and weaknesses, the plot is intriguing and action-packed, and humour is used effectively throughout the novel. I did guess one of the plot twists early on, but it didn't bother me because it wouldn't have been realistic for Tom to figure it out right away. I look forward to reading more about Alice and her entourage! Questa recensione è stata scritta per Recensori in anteprima di LibraryThing. An enjoyable adventure, with an interesting concept of the origin of Earth's myths and legends. The protagonist is wonderfully eccentric, with the added bonus that her odd behavior is NOT because she is "on the autism spectrum." No spoilers as to the apparent reason - but astute readers will find clues within the book. Other characters also shine- Dougal, the "man-of-all-work, butler/cook, grounding influence" for Alice; Pree, who shows up later on, and rather takes over the pages she is on; and Griff, the postman. Sadly, Tom, who appears at first to be rather focal to the story, is given somewhat less personality. As we are introduced to the world of the Mythological Society through his eyes, it would have been nice if he served as a bit more than a foil for the more vivid characters he encounters. In keeping with the idea of a first volume of a series, one major issue is resolved (mostly), while others are left tantalizingly open. Finally, bonus points for the mention of the songs "I Like Bananas Because They have No Bones" and "Why do Peanuts Whistle?" nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione

The first chapter (OK, the prologue), sets the pace.
After that, the story keeps moving forward in great speed.
I did certainly not like all the characters, but the story was great, just great. ( )
