Book two of a survival series, the action is fast-paced and would almost surely be appreciated by young readers who need their stories to be in perpetual motion. That said, there's little to no time spent in character or relationship development or in creating actual scenes and moments. It's all about moving quickly from one near death experience to the next, some of the situations pretty outlandish. (Taming a wild boar, for instance, or discovering they are on an island with smugglers, an island which also happens to be a former WWII base/nuclear bomb operation) ( )

The second Island book is just as good as the first, in different ways. The survival theme switches to the island, but the characters get even more developed.

Luke Haggerty and his four fellow castaways; Will, Charla, and Ian, have finally reached land after days adrift at sea. But now they are stranded on a small, tropical island in the middle of nowhere. They have no idea what might have happened to their fellows from the fated boat trip, Lyssa and J.J. And worst of all, Will, who was worst affected by the long days clinging to a piece of driftwood, has a bad case of amnesia, and is unable to remember anything about the boat trip or his friends. He begins to avoid them, his lost memory turning him into a frightened hermit for a time. And when you throw a group of men who seem to be dangerous illegal smugglers into the mix, you get a riveting, unforgettable story of a group of completely different kids thrown together on an island by fate, who must decide to cooperate, or die.

So far, four of the survivors have battle their way their way through the ocean and found land. Now they must fight for survival in such an awful place. They have no food, no water, and no shelter. Nobody knows that they’re strained Son this small island and it’s on no map. One of the kids is really injured and needs medical help right away. There is also one dark secret on this island that is soon to be discovered. Will they ever get off this island alive or die trying. I like this book because it has lots of things to do with survival. The best part was when they found the other castaways. The worst part was when Will got himself injured. The funniest part was when the boar ate all the food that was in the pack. The book had great description about the island. I also like the shocking twist at the end of the book. This is why I like this amazing book. ( )
