Dark Mode by Ashley Kalagian Blunt is a gripping and heart thumping thriller. At first, the plot did not catch my attention. But after a few pages the plot became so interesting and thrilling that it was nearly impossible for me to put down the book. Reagan, our main lady character has mysteries in her life which unfolds slowly and slowly giving us jump scares after every few pages. The best thing is that the plot proceeds with limited characters which keeps it less confusing. And, when I reached the climax my brain just turned into something else. I really enjoyed the book and one of the best reads of this year. Definitely 5 stars for the book. Thanks to Random Things Tours for providing me with an opportunity to read and review the book. This fierce, unflinching thriller asks timely questions about threatening behaviour. Why don’t we recognise it? Stop it? - Full Review at Newtown Review of Books. WOW!!!!! Due to an incident in her past, Reagan has lived almost totally off the grid for years. No internet, no smart phone, safe. But one day she stumbles onto a body in an ally near her home & the victim looks just like her. As her business demands more of an online presence & more murders rock the city, Reagan is forced to confront her greatest fear: She's been found. I loved this story. It's fast paced, has lots of twists & I actually got a bit scared while reading it (& that takes a lot). Most crime afficionados would have heard about the Black Dahlia & basing the murders on that made it super creepy while at the same time, the other stuff happening to Reagan is very believable. I couldn't put this down! I probably should've waited til I'm better rested to write the review, but oh well. As a planty person I also had a lot of fun looking up the different botanical names mentioned in the book as well. You get the full experience in this story, no sitting on the sidelines for this one, you're in it! A great read (but not if you like sleep). nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione
Once you're online, there's nowhere to hide. Is it paranoia - or is someone watching? For years, Reagan Carsen has kept her life offline. No socials. No internet presence. No photos. Safe. Until the day she stumbles on a shocking murder in a Sydney laneway. The victim looks just like her. Coincidence? As more murders shake the city and she's increasingly drawn out from hiding, Reagan is forced to confront her greatest fear. She's been found. A riveting psychological thriller drawn from true events, 'Dark Mode' delves into the terrifying reality of the dark web, and the price we pay for surrendering our privacy one click at a time. I found this boring for the first half, before it became over the top and deeply misogynistic (which I know was the point, but it was unrelenting and reproduced at unnecessary length). I'm glad I have finished this. ( )
