An engaging short story about two sisters finding their way back to each other after a rift. Like so many family rifts, this one was based on the unmet expectations we have for others we love and a redemptive acknowledgement of our own failure to accept someone for who she or he really is. It was a little less than perfect as a short story for me because, unlike Kate Quinn's Signal Moon, another Amazon Original Story I recently read and cannot help comparing, it was not a "complete" story; it has some unresolved issues for me, which make it a great chapter or central theme for a longer work of fiction. If the intent was instead to draw me into the story of these sisters, to tempt me to read a future novel based on them, then it absolutely succeeded. The writing was lovely, as Ms. Hoffman's writing always is. ( )
