I love Lisa Scottoline's books and was so looking forward to reading this “tome.” This might be the first book of hers that I didn't like and didn't finish. I tried twice hoping it would get better but it didn't. This is her second book set in Italy. I loved Eternal, not only because it was set there, but it was a good story. This was such a big letdown. Too many characters, too disjointed and I'm not a big reader of the 1800s nor the mafia. I appreciate her delving into more male characters though instead of the usual women which was a nice change. I wasn't “loyal” to this book. A basically good story with several interesting characters. The time shift is jarring, especially dealing with Dante's timeline. I wonder if I'm the only reader bothered by the anachronisms in this 1810-set novel by a supposed top-notch historical researcher? Matches, police stations, felt hats for women - none of these were in use, around or even invented (the first two) in 1810. Added to that, the mannerisms and phrasing of the characters were wholly modern, giving this novel the feel of a late-19th-century feel, detracting from my enjoyment of the book. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione

HTML:#1 bestselling author Lisa Scottoline presents Loyalty, an emotional, action-packed epic of love and justice, set during the rise of the Mafia in Sicily. Loyalty can save a soul??or destroy one. Franco Fiorvanti is a handsome lemon grower toiling on the estate of a baron. He dreams of owning his own grove, but the rigid class system of Sicily thwarts his ambition. Determined to secure a better future, Franco will do anything to prove his loyalty to the baron. But when the baron asks him to kidnap a little boy named Dante, Franco makes a decision that will change his life??and even the history of Sicily??forever. Gaetano Catalano is an idealistic young lawyer whose devotion to justice is tantamount to a calling. He??s a member of the Beati Paoli, a real-life secret society of aristocrats who investigate crime in Palermo, a city riddled with graft. Gaetano sets out to find the boy and punish the kidnapper, but his mission leads him to a darker place than he had ever imagined. Meanwhile, Mafalda Pancari is a new mother rejoicing at the birth of her daughter, Lucia, when disaster strikes. And Alfredo D??Antonio is a reclusive goatherd under constant threat of being discovered as a Jew. How the lives of these unforgettable characters collide makes Loyalty an epic tale of good versus evil, as the story twists and turns to its monumental showdown. Readers will be transported to the dramatic and ruggedly beautiful island of Sicily, the jewel of the Mediterranean, where lush lemon groves and mouth-watering cuisine contrast with a turbulent history of colonization and corruption. Scottoline brings her decades of thriller writing to historical fiction, creating in Loyalty a singular novel that no reader will be ab Non sono state trovate descrizioni di biblioteche |

It starts when a young child is kidnapped and taken to a madhouse. Franco Fiorvanti did the crime for a baron, expecting to gain favor, and own his own lemon grove. Yet, Sicily's class system would never let him rise to power, so he chose a path of power grabbing - which is basically the start of the mafia.
In another thread, a young lawyer, Gaetano, tries to find the kidnapped child, and loses his job, and a child in the process. Mafalda, a young mother, has a daughter, Lucia, who is the color of milk, not olive skinned. She is outcast. Alfredo is the lone Jew in Sicily, as all other Jews were removed.
The is the story of good vs. evil, and which will prevail? Very interesting historical novel with a twist of mystery, too! (
