Kismat Connection was a short and sweet young adult contemporary novel. Following Madhuri, a girl unfortunately destined to marry her first love and Arjun, a boy hopelessly in love with his best friend Madhuri, it makes for a cute fake dating-to-actually dating love story.
The best word I can use to describe this is cute, which is not always the best thing. Sometimes I wonder if I've phased out of the young adult book category and this was one of those titles. The writing seemed really young, and made the characters seem younger than their ages on the page. I think with a little more polishing/ editing from the publisher this could have been amazing. I love the diversity rep from this book and I think the cover is stunning. If I saw it on the shelves of my local library I'd give it a go, but I'm not sure if I would pay full price for it from Barnes and Noble. ( )

I wanted to like this book. I thought the concept was great and it had great potential. However, almost immediately I hated the characters. It took a while, but a few of them started to grow on me. I never got the connection to them that I wanted, probably because I didn't immediately like them. I also didn't think their relationship was developed correctly. It just didn't sit right with me.

There were a few cute moments, particularly toward the end of the book. But, I had to force myself to keep going when I wanted to DNF. I am glad I finished it, just so I can say I gave it a fair chance. The best parts of the book were in the last 20%. Those don't make up for the rest of the book, though.

I did like the family interaction. I think the family is one of my favorite parts of the book. It was strong and really showed the culture. I enjoyed seeing that.

I think this author has potential to write a really good story, but this one just didn't work for me. The main characters and their actions got on my nerves, and didn't get better until the very end. ( )

Kismat Connection was a short and sweet young adult contemporary novel. Following Madhuri, a girl unfortunately destined to marry her first love and Arjun, a boy hopelessly in love with his best friend Madhuri, it makes for a cute fake dating-to-actually dating love story.

The plot was simple and cute; a simple fake dating-to-lovers story with Indian representation and culture majorly intertwined into the story. My main and possibly only complaint would be the writing. From the moment I started reading the first page, I was thrust into the middle of a story with no introduction. The opening scene wanted me to feel something for the characters I had only just met. Not only that, but the writing was quite juvenile and amateurish. I understand that this was a debut novel but the author could've used some more practice before publishing this out into the world.

Overall, this was a pretty good novel, not awful at all. My only wish was that it had been somewhat longer to fully flesh out the characters and give them a proper introduction and backstory. ( )

Fun and flirty

I enjoyed the premise of this book so much and then after reading the first impression, knew I had to read this novel. I enjoyed the banter and chemistry between Arjun and Madhuri and delighted when I could see Madhuri was in denial of her true feelings. Best friends to more is always a fun romance trope for me and this one took it in a new direction, different from other books I've read with this trope.

I loved Madhuri's supportive and loving family and how they accepted Arjun into their lives from the start and never left him. The friendships were also my favorites. I enjoyed the family drama Arjun experienced and my heart broke for him and then also cheered as he stood up for himself and put himself first.

I loved the culture infused throughout and enjoyed the astrological readings. I enjoyed how Madhuri tried to reject her culture due to bullying and then found the strength to embrace the life she was born into.

The only part I didn't enjoy was the pacing which often seemed to drag or just repeat the same things. Overall, a great debut. ( )

Kismat Connection was a sweet YA romance about two teenagers Madhuri and Arjun who have been friends most of their lives. Madhuri wants to try to change her fate and convinces Arjun into a dating experiment. This was a cute concept and fun how the two became a couple. I loved learning about the culture. I enjoyed the closeness of the family and how Madhuri’s family consider Arjun part of their family always. I hate that Madhuri felt that she could not be herself because other teenagers including her ex friends made fun of her because of her culture. But I like the fact that she was able to overcome that and be herself and embrace her culture. I felt the writing was good. This was a quick read. I read it in one day. This is just a fun young adult romance with just a little teenage drama but a lot of family and close friends that stick together no matter what. I would recommend this book. ( )
