An adorable book that centers around a young girls dramatic hunt for her lost bear. ( )

"I Lost My Bear" tellls the story of a young girls search for her lost bear. The young initially seeks the help of her parents but they tell her if they help her she wont learn to keep better care of her things. The young girl than takes on the role of detective as she searching up and down her house for her lost teddy bears. Through out the story the young girl is searching for her bear. At one point the young girl has a melt down and no one stops her crying, so she stops it her self. As the bed times arises the young girl has still not found her bear. She cries to her mother that she not help her and blames her for the bear being lost. As her mom tucks her into bed, the young girl discovers that her teddy bear had been in her bed the whole time. The central message of this story did not pop out to me right away. Upon deeper reflection I believe the central message is to be independent and not look for others to solve your problems. The young girl would have found the bear eventually and all she needed was to stay persistent. ( )

Oh, the heartbreak!  Especially when none of the rest of family is sympathetic, and their suggestions aren't helpful.  Until the big sister takes pity, and, eventually, her suggested strategy is, in a roundabout manner, effective.  A little on the long side, but the gamut of emotions that are powerfully presented by the artist's different designs are all important.  I especially liked how nobody tried to soothe her temper tantrum, so she stopped herself from crying. ( )

Charlotte is a young girl who has lost her favorite teddy bear. She asked all of her family if they had seen it or if they would help and she didn't get the responses she wanted. Her dad told her that she is always losing things and that he wanted her to find it on her own so it would teach her a lesson. Her mother told her to be like a detective and try to think where she had it last. Then her sister gave her one of her stuffed animals in order to help find her bear. However, it found other lost things but did not find her bear. When it was time for bed Charlotte cried to her mother about how she couldn't find her bear. As her mom laid her down she found her bear in her bed. I liked this book because it demonstrated how it was Charlottes responsibility to find her bear not her families. I could use this book to show children when they lose things, they need to stop and think before they go blaming other people. I could also use it to show that sometimes things aren't as difficult as we think they are, sometimes we just need to take a break and open our eyes. This genre is fiction. ( )
