How you know what you know, or, more exactly, how you come to know what you know. Meek's best illustration is the Magic Eye puzzle, for one sample of her simplifying clarifying genius. I once had students read it weekly chapter by chapter -- that proved to be too slow a way -- but at least one student thought it was so insightful he bought copies for friends and family members. ( ) Meek embraces Polanyi's Epistemology and passes it off as Christian. The problem is that such an embrace of an essentially non-absolute objectivist system removes any apologetic for saying that others are wrong as long as these other systems fulfil the criteria of "confidence in their system as having contact with the world". nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione
We don't often think about the act of knowing, but if we do, the question of what we know and how we know it becomes murky indeed. Longing to Know is a book about knowing: knowing how we know things, knowing how we know people, and knowing how we know God. This book is for those who are considering Christianity for the first time, as well as Christians who are struggling with issues related to truth, certainty, and doubt. As such, it is a wonderful resource for evangelists, pastors, and counselors. This unique look at the questions of knowing is both entertaining and approachable. Questions for reflection make it ideal for students of philosophy and all those wrestling with the questions of knowledge. Non sono state trovate descrizioni di biblioteche |
