Fantasy Riordan's new book is an deep sea adventure, reimagining 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. The story is action packed with a diverse group of characters. Riordan succeeds in representation without it becoming burdensome for the book or the reader. This is a strength. Ana Dakkar is a freshman at Harding-Pencroft Academy, a five-year high school that graduates the best marine scientists, naval warriors, navigators, and underwater explorers in the world. As Ana's freshman classmates get ready for a culminating weekend of training, they witness the destruction of their school. This group of students must find out what happened and why. They find themselves thrust into a battle with a rival school and a quest for Nemo's famous Nautilus. This is a great read - it is action packed, has great character development and diversity, and lot of cool sci-fi/nautical information that readers will enjoy. However, it might be a bit much for younger readers. A large group of students and adults are killed during the destruction of HP Academy. There are numerous scenes of fighting and discussion of weaponry. While most fights avoid casualties, but there are injuries, some serious. Recommend for middle school and higher. Definitely see a movie in the works.... * I got this book for review from the publisher for my honest thoughts* I loved this book so much. I have always really enjoyed reading Riordan books and always loved seeing the world he created. I loved diving into this retelling. I also really loved the main characters. The structure of the schools, reminded me of HP but the way the "houses" were crafted make so much more sense is focuses more on working together and less on competition. It was a super fast pace read. I also loved all the side characters that we met. This book was realistic science fiction focus but with sci fi twist. I really flew through this book and really hope we get more books in this world! * I got this book for review from the publisher for my honest thoughts* I loved this book so much.
