I still find it hard to believe they believe all they say they do. An interesting book with an important topic unfortunately marred by a mediocre writing style consisting of what feels like long lists of citations. As a result, the book is more boring than it needed to be. The author defines a set of issues making up the "Republican Jesus" and then provides the history of how that issue became part of the Republican liturgy and then tries to define more precisely what the Bible actually did and did not say on this issue. By restoring Republicans' cherry-picked gospel texts to their original literary and historical contexts, Keddie dismantles the biblical basis for Republican positions on hot-button issues like Big Government, taxation, abortion, immigration, and climate change. At the same time, he introduces readers to an ancient Jesus whose life experiences and ethics were totally unlike those of modern Americans, conservatives and liberals alike"-- Non sono state trovate descrizioni di biblioteche |
