This TPB is Spider-Man aka Peter Parker’s trials and tribulations after he is convinced by Tony to reveal his secret identity. It’s about how the bad guys react after they learn that Spider-Man at one point was a fifteen year old (hint: the one with the eight arms does not take it well at all). And how they decide to go after not just him, but his family as well.

My favorite part of the TPB though was the character studies of Aunt May and Mary Jane, not to mention the short one about Felicia aka The Black Cat. They were interesting and gave a cool in depth look into the three women’s thoughts and feelings. ( )

Okay. I enjoyed the first story (some of Peter Parker's biology students the day after he unmasks) which had gorgeous art. Aunt May is a tough cookie. The Black Cat plot was kind of meh, but maybe it'd resonate better if I read more Spider-Man comics and knew more about her... ( )

So there was nothing huge happening here, but the stories were still deep and built on deepening the characters and their relationships with each other. ( )

I think that this is one of the better trades to come out of the Civil War event. Instead of focusing on Spider-Man, the story arcs collected here focus on the people in Peter's life and how his "coming out" as Spider-Man affected them. The first story features a student of Peter's, who wonders how his teacher being Spider-Man will affect his life. The next arc is about Mary Jane, and it's a good story showing how their marriage has its ups and downs, although it was kind of a bummer reading it, knowing how things turn out shortly after this arc takes place. Thanks Marvel. Next comes a story featuring May, and then finally one featuring the Black Cat. All of them were pretty well done and enjoyable to read, but if you're looking for a lot of adventure and action, this trade doesn't have it.

The art is done by several different people, so there's a lot of variance. I like Crain's style, but his coloring is usually too dark, and he seems to have trouble with men's faces. The rest of the art is okay to good in range.

It's best to have a working knowledge of the events in the Civil War, including Peter's team changing, before reading this book. Although it's definitely possible to read it without knowing the details, I wouldn't recommend it. There's no explanation as to why Peter goes from living in Avengers Tower to some crummy hotel, for example. ( )
