I really enjoyed this collection, I actually found myself reserving reading this book to my train rides home for work because it gave me something uplifting to look forward to every day.
It was so nice to read positive stories that weren't saccharine or felt forced, just people working together to make things better for everyone. And using Science!
This is one of the few short story collections I've read where I really enjoyed just about every story. There was only one story that I felt was weaker than the others, the last one, Black Ice City. There wasn't really anything wrong with the story, it just didn't feel like it fit in with all the others somehow.
This was my first real exposure to solar punk and I'm very glad I read it, especially in these troubling times. There needs to be more positive vibes out there, more examples of what we can be when we work together.
I will definitely be getting the Glass and Gardens: Solarpunk Summers and hope that they continue with a spring and fall one? ( )

Very assorted, as usual. The first few annoyed me because they were pretty much straight romances - the solarpunk part was at best backdrop. Later on some of them had wider involvement, where the solarpunk-ness and the climate change were integral to the plot, though still most of them were romances. I liked the ice statues one, partly because it _wasn't_, for a change - also, the sudden switch of viewpoint on the visitor. The garden guerillas were interesting - nice to see how they've developed since the first one - but I did feel I'd missed a story somewhere. The official relative was not something that was mentioned in the Summer anthology, as far as I recall. Svalbard was neat, too. The switch from lone defender of non-utilitarian life, to understanding the official stance and its implications, was nicely done. The two Ys stories (with very different slants on it!) were both interesting - though perhaps more because of the combination than either one on its own. Overall - good stories, interesting theme, I enjoyed the less-grim style that's inherent to solarpunk - but no really striking stories. A week later, most of them have blurred in my mind to non-existence. Glad I read it, though, and I'll be looking for more in this style. ( )

Like the earlier Glass and Gardens: Solarpunk Summers anthology I reviewed a while back, the stories are set in a post-climate change world, but here the focus is on a change to a snowball Earth or people living in the polar regions.

As with the earlier anthology, I enjoyed the book. However, I did find some of the science a bit hand-wavium; people eking out a living in the ruins of pre-change Earth have high tech science? Really? I also found the gender-fluid nature of most of the stories a bit in your face - which won’t please the people who should read the stories. I personally don’t mind it, but others will, and I feel that will lose potential audience.

Prior to receiving it, I had no idea what "SolarPunk" was. Apparently it is about envisioning a future in a sustainable civilizations via renewable energies such as solar or wind.
The authors of these short stories do a fabulous job of sharing snippets of what this looks like during the winter. True, all of these stories are about civilizations post some apocalyptic event, but they all have examples of ways that we should adopt and start utilizing now in today's world. ( )
