"A revealing, dramatic, deeply personal book about the most significant events of our time, written by the former United States Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley is widely admired for her forthright manner ("With all due respect, I don't get confused"), her sensitive approach to tragic events, and her confident representation of America's interests as our Ambassador to the United Nations during times of crisis and consequence. In this book, Haley offers a first-hand perspective on major national and international matters, as well as a behind-the-scenes account of her tenure in the Trump administration. This book reveals a woman who can hold her own-and better-in domestic and international power politics, a diplomat who is unafraid to take a principled stand even when it is unpopular, and a leader who seeks to bring Americans together in divisive times"--… (altro)

Not very substantive, just another angle at the Trump administration dysfunction -- bullies and control freaks (Tillerson, Kelly, Mnuchin, etc), obstruction to access to Trump, but this time it was done to someone who per her job-accepting conditions had cabinet level status and a position on NSC. Besides the personnel conflicts, not much else was interesting, except that before accepting the UN Ambassador position, Trump had offered her Secretary of State first (she owed it to readers to explain why given the magnitude of that position and her admitted lack of experience for it). She did admit that she had to cram for the UN job as she didn't even know what they did. To me, this says more about Trump -- Hayley for Secretary of State !? She knew the USA deserved someone with knowledge and expertise, yet she took the job being unqualified. (Thus it's no surprise she would run for GOP nomination for President, knowing she's only a mere citizen and does not meet the Constitutional national born citizen requirement.) Drab writing, not even insightful regarding her job area -- the United Nations -- and I'm still left wondering why Trump, known for crappy personnel choices, could have been so off the chart to offer her Secretary of State, what was that about? And this book does not answer that most basic of questions. ( )

Self-serving political piece that tries to 'splain how Trump was mistreated and misunderstood ( )

I generally dislike politicians and books by them, but this was a refreshing break. Haley seems honest, competent, and communicates clearly. I disagree with her on a lot of issues, but she did a good job in SC and at the UN and hopefully there will be more from her in 2024 . ( )

Mostly focused on her professional life, which wasn't that educational. I personally would have preferred to know how she even got to the position of Governor of South Carolina. She had some good insights on how important it is to establish a clear chain of command. If she was under another agency when she was an ambassador for the UN, she wouldn't have been able to make much of an impact.

The rest of the book was more informative and give her perspective on how dysfunctional the UN is, the situation in many refugee camps around the world, how Trump's cabinet worked to undermine him, etc. ( )
