My Savior... Or My Ruin?

One night, and my entire life went up in flames. All because of him. Jafar. As my world burned down around me, he offered me a choice. Walk away with nothing but my freedom... Or rise to his challenge and win my fortune back.

I bargained.

I lost.

Now Jafar owns me, and even as my mind rails against his rules, my body loves the punishments he deals out when I break them.

But a gilded cage is still a prison, I'll do anything to obtain my freedom.

Even betray the man I'm falling for.

Katee Robert is one of my goddesses and I LOVED the beginning of this book so three stars hurts me. After The Underworld scene it kind of just dropped off for me. I wanted to see more exploration of the multiple partners and a better action sequence with Ali ( )

If you know me, even a little bit, you should know I'm a sucker for villains, all types and sizes - from demons, who are part of dark cults, through mafia bosses, who will kill you if you say something wrong, to beasts living in the woods.

Cause, according to me, villains love best. It's not a coincidence Kehlani has a song about gangsters ("I want a gangster to love me better"), and it's the same reason Belle stayed with the beast, not Gaston even tho Luke Evans did a damn fine job...

Villains are so much more fun, they don't have morals, and certainly won't be scared to kill someone who hurts you, cause they are the only ones supposed to do it. No law will ever stop them from showing how much they love you, and no man will stand in their way.

So when I heard Katee Robert has a series about them, what did I do? I bought the first book. And If I have to be fair with you guys, this is the only book from the series I've read so far.

And believe me when I tell you I really fucking enjoyed it.

The book, called "Desperate measures" is a modern-day retelling of the good old "Aladdin" story, only that this time Jasmine is the main character, and she sure as hell doesn't end up with Aladdin.

In this version, the princess is sold by her father to a cruel man - Ali, but surprisingly he is not the one who appears in her room that night. It's the villain from the original story - Jafar, who believe me when I tell ya, it's smoking hot.

Jafar kidnaps the princess and kills her father. So Jasmine ends up moving from one golden cage to another.

I really liked the book, but the one thing that made me give it only 4 hearts is that the end felt a bit rushed. I loved reading Jasmine's and Jafar's adventures in the dungeon, and certainly liked the tension and the flames between them.

Jafar - well, villains never fail to disappoint, and he surely didn't disappoint me, but in the end, Jafar didn't really feel like a villain. He was a cute sweetheart, who devoted his love to Jasmine. He was always there protecting and supporting her, and even if he wasn't, her safety came first.

Jasmine - there was only one flaw in this heroine, and it was that her character development felt too fast, way too rushed. In one moment overwhelmed by the world, scared girl, and in the next she was this dominant queen, ready to rule. That didn't sit right with me. I think if the book was a bit longer, let's say 50 more pages, she would've been the absolute best, but now it just felt weird.

The plot twist was truly surprising, and I certainly didn't predict it, but nonetheless, I loved it. I expected her to escape with Meg's help, but Ali to find her, and then Jafar to come, but honestly, this way was better, even tho I thought of Hades as an asshole

And the end was sweet and hot, and I would've loved more of it.

However the book was a great read, probably one of the best during the year, and I can't wait to read more for the other characters, as well and from Katee, who is such an excellent author, and a favorite of mine. ( )

What happens when Jasmine chooses the bad boy Jafar over Ali? Lots of down and dirty action, threesomes, and sex dungeons - that's what! This book is scorching hot - mix 50 Shades of Gray with Aladdin and you have this steaming hot erotica. Admittedly the book is set in the modern day and there is no flying carpets or magic genies - but you still have the same people and the same power dynamics (Jasmine will always be trapped in a palace). The plot is eh, the romance is eh - but the sex is pretty great - which who are we kidding that's the whole reason people are reading this. This book is the first in the wicked villains series and introduces us to some other key players for later on in the series (Meg and Hades, Hook, etc.). Again the plot is questionable but the scenes are spicy. I may read more in the series when I have free time. ( )

Lots of spice. A very quick paced book. The only thing that kind of bothered me was the typos. Other than that I loved the book ( )

I'm not really gonna talk about this book for obvious reasons. But I know that I loved this book and I'm gonna go down a spiral and read everything in the Wicked Villains series. ( )
