Two jaded characters who connect but have trust issues. No cheating. Ex drama. No intimate scenes with anyone other than the Hero and heroine. After the initial meeting, a short separation after that slow burn reconnecting. Excellent secondary characters. Some very funny parts but also some really emotional scenes as well. HEA. Epilogue. ARC. I loved this book. It's a good old fashioned romance. The culprit of any issues is the heart in this warm, wonderful tale. The characters are smouldering, smart alek, tough when need be, stubborn, and loving. I really hope that there is more novels for some secondary characters making this a great series. The pace was perfection, there was never a dull moment. There was conflict, there was humor, there was sexy times, and there was love. I could not put this book down, I was drawn to the characters from the get go and thoroughly enjoyed their story. This story is told in dual pov. Rache Van Dyken has a way with characters. She has a way of writing them with just enough snark to make them fun but not so snarky that they aren't lovable. She does a great job with friendships among men. Her woman are stronger than they think and you can't help but fall in love with them like the heroes do. It all makes the Happily Ever After even better and leaves you waiting to see what she might have in store for some of the other characters. Rachel Van Dyken is one of my favorite authors to read. From start to finish, my heart belongs to the characters she creates and the dramas they face. Risky Play is no exception. Slade, I admit is a little hard to love, but who really ever is when they're nursing a broken heart. Mackenzie is the type of heroine, I root for. She's finding her footing after numerous upheavals in her personal life. There were times I just wanted to hug her and assure her that life would get better. There were many moments were Slade needed a good throttling, but a good author, doesn't make it easy to get to the happy ending. Once you get there, a good author makes you glad you stayed. I was glad I stayed. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione

I always look forward to new books by this author. Somehow, I missed this book when it was released. I'm not quite sure how that happened. I know going into any of her stories that I am going to get a strong feisty female that also has a vulnerable side and an amazing man that will need his balance and will have to grovel a time or two. This might seem cookie cutter but for this author, she makes it new and exciting every time. I loved Mackenzie and Slade. I loved the bantering and connection. I also adored the bantering with Matt and Jagger.
My only complaint with this story was that I didn't understand the whole purpose with Alton not wanting to get married. Especially, considering what lengths he went to at the end.
Still another hit. ( )
