"What happens when you're really, truly done making your marriage work? You can't be married to someone without sometimes wanting to bash them over the head... As Long As We Both Shall Live is JoAnn Chaney's wicked, masterful examination of a marriage gone very wrong, a marriage with lots of secrets... "My wife! I think she's dead!" Matt frantically tells park rangers that he and his wife, Marie, were hiking when she fell off a cliff into the raging river below. They start a search, but they aren't hopeful: no one could have survived that fall. It was a tragic accident. But Matt's first wife also died in suspicious circumstances. And when the police pull a body out of the river, they have a lot more questions for Matt. Detectives Loren and Spengler want to know if Matt is a grieving, twice-unlucky husband or a cold-blooded murderer. They dig into the couple's lives to see what they can unearth. And they find that love's got teeth, it's got claws, and once it hitches you to a person, it's tough to rip yourself free. So what happens when you're done making it work?" --… (altro)

Joann Chaney’s “As Long as We Both Shall Live” is the best Gone Girl rip off I’ve read. A real page turner with a fully satisfying ending. Switching point of views works well to move the plot as a speeding train rate. Husband and Wife shenanigans are front center but sub-plots relating to the investigators of murder beautifully flesh out the novel. ( )

A pretty fun thriller with a great twist. We’ve all seen those Dateline episodes where a guy has multiple dead wives in his wake, and this book was a fun twist on that story. There was definitely a big *gasp* point which I always love and need in a thriller!

I agree with many other reviewers that there’s a kinda lame subplot involving one of the detectives. I appreciate a B-plot but every time this one came up I was like “oh this again?”

Also could have done with more showing and less telling, especially in the third act. Overall, a solid, fast-paced thriller with lots of good elements. ( )

This book started off strong and I expected to love this tangled web of marriage gone wrong and happily ever after turned into I hope you die before me. As it went on and veered away from the dysfunctional marriage and headed more into the lives of the cops working the investigation and the daily ins and outs of police work the less interested I became. When I finally made it to the reveal I was a bit let down at the unbelievability of it all.

I received an advance copy for review. ( )

At first I didn’t think I’d like this book. After about 50 pages, I was hooked. I didn’t have the ending figured out, which is always good. ( )

I simply cannot fathom how this book got so many good reviews. I thought the plot line was ridiculous, and it was poorly written and filled with cardboard characters that I couldn't care less about. Virtually everyone in this book was either a psychopath who blithely committed murder or a cynic who moved through life with hardly any redeeming qualities. Horrible book! ( )
