"An addictive, highly commercial suspense novel featuring a grand estate, terrible secrets, and a young woman who bears witness to it all. If V.C. Andrews, Kate Morton, and Lexie Elliot had a love child, Emma Rous and THE AU PAIR would be it. Seraphine Mayes and her twin brother Danny were born in the middle of summer at their family's estate on the Norfolk coast. Within hours of their birth, their mother threw herself from the cliffs, the au pair fled, and the village thrilled with whispers of dark cloaks, changelings, and the aloof couple who drew a young nanny into their inner circle. Now an adult, and mourning the recent death of her father, Seraphine begins to go through his belongings, when she uncovers a family photograph that raises dangerous questions. It was taken on the day the twins were born, and in the photo, their mother, surrounded by her husband and her young son, is beautifully dressed, smiling serenely, and holding just one baby. Who is the child and what really happened that day? Someone knows the truth, if only Seraphine can find her. The Au Pair" --… (altro)

The Au Pair is the kind of thriller that started off good and as the story progressed just kept my interest all the way through to the very end. Emma Rous has written a truly engrossing thriller, perfect for readers that love family secrets. What really happened to Seraphine and Danny's mother on the day they were born? Why did their mother kill herself? Could the nanny know something? And what happened to the nanny?

This dual storyline book both explore the past, with the young nanny in the focus as she starts working for Seraphine parents. In the present time is Seraphine trying to come to terms with her father's death as well as the mystery of her mother's death many years before. But, sometimes, the truth can be deadly...

I found The Au Pair to be an excellent thriller and I can't wait to read the next book by Emma Rous.

I want to thank the publisher for providing me with a free copy through Edelweiss for an honest review! ( )

This book did not excite me or satisfy my bookish greed. It was boring, predictable and soap-opera laden (not in a good way). It also took me two weeks to finish, which is unusual for me. It had promise in the first couple of chapters, but fell flat and boring after that. ( )

I did not finish this audiobook – I couldn't get in to the spirit of a murder mystery, so I didn't pay enough attention to follow it. I'm sure it was quite good if you got into it. ( )

A fun mystery trying to unknot secrets of the past and figure out parentage when many of the people who could tell the truth aren’t able to do so any more. Told in dual timelines, Seraphini has always suspected she doesn’t quite fit in, that she doesn’t look like the rest of her family, and that the circumstances surrounding her mother’s suicide on the day of her birth were suspicious. She has a twin, along with an older brother, and in the months leading up toher birth, that older brother was cared for by an au pair (as per the title), who is the other pov in this. It’s definitely an interesting narrative, and even if a stretch to believe in places, that makes it no less entertaining. I enjoyed the twists the deeper in we got.

Please excuse typos/name misspellings. Entered on screen reader. ( )
