Siguieron caminando hasta que llegaron a unas escaleras de piedra blanca que terminaban en el ombligo de una enorme estatua. Kwll comenzó a subir, moviendo torpemente las cuatro piernas. Al fin, entraron por la redonda abertura y se encontraron en una enorme habitación iluninada por la luz que caía de la lejana cabeza de la estatua. Y en el centro de la luz había un grupo de criaturas armadas, como dispuestas para el combate. Eran a la vez deformes y bellas y llevaban una gran variedad de armaduras y armas. Algunos tenían cabezas que parecían de bestias, mientras que otros parecían hermosas mujeres. Córum supuso que eran los duques del Infierno, los que servían a Mabelode, Rey de las Espadas. Uno de los duques, iba desnudo y era alto. Su blanca piel era suave y sin vello, perfectamente proporcionado, pero no tenía cara. Córum supo que era Mabelode, llamado Sin Cara.

Great read. Very fast-paced for the fantasy genre. Almost too fast - at times all kinds of fantastical things happening at breakneck speed and it's a little hard to keep up. For all that it's great fun and keeps you interested. ( )

After the defeat of Xiombarg and the return of the City of the Pyramid containing remnants of the Vadhagh race, Corum was able to be happy for a time. He, Rhalinia and Jhary were able to live as the Vadhagh lived before - concentrating on the arts, their leisure pursuits and the finer things in life. It wasn't too long before the powers of King Mabdelode began to exert their influence, however. The banishment of his brother and sister - Arioch and Xiombarg - had given Mabdelode a severe dislike for Corum and he would do anything to see him humiliated. So when a strange cloud of seething hate filled the lands of the Vadhagh, Corum and Jhary suspected it was Chaos at work. But how would they gather their forces to assault the King of Swords when they could barely stand to be in the same room as one another? As well, the Eye and Hand were no longer granting Corum the same powers as before. He would need more help. ( )
