"This poetry collection focuses on a hybridized Indigiqueer trickster character named Zoa who brings togehter the organic (the protozoan) and the technologic (the binaric) to re-beautify and re-member queer Indigeneity. A Two-Spirit/Indigiqueer invention, Zoa infects, invades, and infests as a virus inside canonical and popular works in order to re-centre the lives of Two-Spirit individuals. In their fierce defence, Zoa takes on the likes of Shakespeare, Spenser, Dickens, and Milton, romps through the fields of cyberpunks and biopunks, takes notes from popularized horror icons, and emulates contemporary pop-culture phenomenons like Lana del Rey, RuPaul's Drag Race, X-Men, Grindr, and Peter Pan -- all to build new territories in literature, pop culture, and oral storytelling. 'full-metal indigiqueer' works tirelessly to create coalition among Two-Spirit/Indigiqueer folk who have been ghosted in policy, page, tradition, and history -- the very lives of Two-Spirit/Indigiqueer youth are rarely mentioned; they find themselves made spectral in settler and neocolonial Indigenous nationalisms. For those who have, as Donna Haraway once noted, 'been injured, profoundly', 'full-metal indigiqueer' is a sex-positive project that sparks resurgence."--Page 4 of cover.… (altro)

This type of poetry was just going right over my head for the most part. There were definitely parts I got the message of and appreciated, like Late-Night Reruns and the superbly timed placements of "here i am" and its variations. But those moments are buried in what seemed to me to be streams of consciousness, which don't work for me, or the bizarre computer-speak formatting that I'm sure a more poetry-oriented person than I am could appreciate the artistry of. This is a gender-bending, format-twisting, language-curling trip of a read.

Whitehead is a cyberpunk, decoding and decolonising, breaking rules and rewriting his own narrative. Whitehead's voice is sweet and a little melancholy and beautiful all the same. He takes text and words and makes them dance across the page, through pictures, up and down, and I love that.

Poetry doesn't have to fit into a certain format to be beautiful or to be understood. At first, the formatting was difficult to read but then I took my time and realised that his poetry was all the more beautiful for the effort.

He forms his own queer / 2-spirit identity through poetry. I need time to process this, until I feel it in the marrow of my bones.

This collection is a tender rebellion. I loved it so much. ( )

So, incredibly, incredibly good. So many parts of these poems were like getting hit in the throat, especially in the later half, and the form that Whitehead uses is so powerful and intriguing. I want like everyone to read this. At first the form felt intimidating, but VERY quickly I got over that and got into the flow. It's just so much--the poems are beautiful and harrowing, intellectual and also so visceral all at the same time. Just incredible work. Please read this. ( )
