"For readers of Rupi Kaur (Milk and Honey) and Atticus (Love Her Wild), a book small enough to carry with you, with messages big enough to stay with you, from one of the most quotable and influential poets of our time. Andrea Gibson explores themes of love, gender, politics, sexuality, family, and forgiveness with stunning imagery and a fierce willingness to delve into the exploration of what it means to heal and to be different in this strange age. Take Me With You, illustrated throughout with evocative line drawings by Sarah J. Coleman, is small enough to fit in your bag, with messages that are big enough to wake even the sleepiest heart. Divided into three sections (love, the world, and becoming) of one liners, couplets, greatest hits phrases, and longer form poems, it has something for everyone, and will be placed in stockings, lockers, and the hands of anyone who could use its wisdom"--… (altro)

i didn't realize that this was a collection of excerpts from their poetry. i am generally not a fan of excerpting or abridging. i'm also not much of a fan of the quippy font and the aphorism type collection. that said, this shows me that i want to read more of their actual work, as some of it, even out of context, really resonated.

"Just to be clear, I don't
want to get out without a
broken heart.
I intend
to leave
this life so
shattered
there
better be a
thousand separate heavens for
all my flying parts."

"They want you thinking you're
bad at being a girl instead of
thinking you're good at being
yourself. They want you to buy
your blush from a store instead
of letting it bloom from your
butterflies. They're telling you
to blend in, like you've never
seen how a blender works, like
they think you've
never seen the mess
from the blade."

"Even when the truth
isn't hopeful,
the telling of it is."

I loved Rupi Kaur's MILK AND HONEY, so when I saw this book of poems favourably being compared to Kaur's work, I knew I had to pick it up. And yes, the comparison makes sense. Both authors write short, punchy, heartfelt poems that make an impact and leave an imprint long after you've turned the last page.

However, Gibson's love poems are more restrained than Kaur's, less provocative and shocking. They also veer into territory away from the romantic: social justice, identity, belonging. I particularly enjoyed the drawings that went with some of the poems -- same as in Kaur's books, those visual touches added so much to the rawness of the words alongside them.

This is the kind of book you can leave out on your bedside table and pick up, over and over again. Every time you ( )

Excerpts of Gibsons work that reads similar to tumblr poetry in the best ways. A soft course, slow dive into Gibson's writing which only left me searching for the pieces' longer, complete counterparts. ( )

I'll start by saying, I love Andrea Gibson's poetry. Love the performances posted in YouTube. I've been a fan the moment I first heard "I Do." And "Maybe I Need You" is by far my favorite poem by the poet. When I saw this little book at the store, I knew I must have it. There was some disappointment when I realized this wasn't a new work by Gibson, but a compilation of past works. It is still beautiful and powerful and a must read for poetry lovers. ( )

Thank you for selecting me as a winner in the giveaway.

My feelings changed as I was reading this very interesting book. At first I was not sure I was the right audience, as the two poems with tampons were not my thing, nor experiencing the same things as the author who is a lesbian. As I carried on, I fell in love with it as it is clear the author suffers from some of the same emotional and mental health issues that either plagued me as a younger woman or I continue to struggle with.

I loved the format, giant lettering filling the entire page sometimes with only 6 or 7 words.

Very quotable. I recommend this highly. ( )
