Bamboozled was a story that I picked up off the self and put it into my pile of books, without knowing much about it. I am very happy I picked up this book. It has become an instant love of mine. I think that anyone who has ever visited a grandparent, then they know how special it can be. THis story is about a girl who goes to take a day visit to her grandfather at his house. When she arrives, something doesnt seem normal to her. Something about her grandfather had changed but she couldnt figure it out. Meanwhile, the illustrations of the story are crazier then you can imagine. There are so many goofy, whacky, and ridiculous things going on visually, that you wonder what could be different about her grandfather, hoping it is not something bad. In the end, what changed was that he had on two different kinds of socks. Not the giraffe in the kitchen or the Television being used as a fish tank. Overall a wonderful story that any classroom would enjoy. Readers gain most of their understanding of this book through the fun, bright, and impractical illustrations. The story involves a little girl visiting her grandfather. The text suggests they do normal things together, like playing cards or housework but the illustrations show that things are really weird. The carpet in the grandfather's house is grass, which must be mowed, zoo animals live inside, paintings come alive, and so much more. Through out the story the granddaughter shares that she feels like something is not quite right about her grandfather today. The reader would think that all of the craziness going on in the illustrations is what is making her feel uneasy. In the end, we find out that what is not right is that the grandpa has on odd matching socks. I think the book would be a great way to teach students the importance of illustrations. I would first read this story with out even showing students the book, then ask questions and write down responses. Next, I would share the pictures along with reading the story and then see how children responded differently. I could then have students look at other books and share how those illustrations manipulate the text. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione
