the biggest, scariest monster in the Hellboy/BPRD universe is the Mike Mignola/Guy Davis teamup ( )

The best B.P.R.D. book up to this point. In parts funny, heartbreaking, and engrossing, the only negative IMO was the first issue which doesn't fit the rest of the book, but is presumably setting up future plots.

The art is fantastic, although as ever it's very stylised and so won't be to everyone's tastes.

The book is kept moving along at a good pace by an action packed story of ghosts and Nazi scientists, and introducing a new leader in Ben Daimio, who is probably my new favourite character. He's funny and genre savvy, and I hope he sticks around for awhile.

The other storyline, involving Abe and his long dead wife, were slower and more sinister, and added more tragedy to an already maudlin character. I can see why some people would be put off by this part of the comic, but I thoroughly enjoyed it, and felt it worked well as a counter balance to the rest of the book.

The two main stories in this aren't really connected, but the beats when moving from one to another really worked, and the smaller Abe storyline never felt out of place. ( )

Novým velitelem týmu Úřadu paranormálního výzkumu a obrany se stává mrtvý vojenský kapitán Benjamin Daimio a celý úřad se stěhuje do nové centrály – obrovského po dlouhou dobu uzavřeného výzkumného zařízení, ve kterém americká vláda prováděla ve spolupráci s nacistickými vědci utajené experimenty.

Nejpodivnější komiksový tým se díky tomuto příběhu o živé mrtvole, šílenství, kopí osudu a monstrózní bráně do nebes stává ještě podivnějším.

Zkratka Ú. P. V. O. znamená Úřad paranormálního výzkumu a obrany, který by vám měl být více než povědomý, pokud jste někdy zavítali do světa Hellboye. Pro fanoušky rohatého bojovníka je tahle pobočná série naprostou nutností.

Přestože má tenhle díl pořadové číslo čtyři, jedná se vlastně o druhý díl série Ú. P. V. O.! První dva díly byly totiž pouze sebranými povídkami náhodně vytvořenými různými tvůrci pro různé příležitosti.

Almost a Ship-in-a-Bottle volume, this one moves the BPRD out west to fight the Frogs and they find that they aren't alone in their base. I thought Davis' art was a little looser here than the previous volume but got better in the later issues. ( )

I really enjoy this story.

Coming off of Plague of Frogs, the BPRD is in need of some organizational changes to help them handle the epidemic. Fortunately, there's a formerly dead captain by the name of Ben Daimio who's expressed great interest in working with them. The frog problem will need some new strategies, and Daimio might be just the man for the job.

He's also found a new location for BPRD headquarters closer to the strongest concentration of frog sightings, a former military research facility in Colorado with a curious history, and plenty of secrets. Upon moving in, the Bureau starts to uncover these secrets, long buried.

Meanwhile, in Rhode Island, Abe and Kate delve into the history of Langdon Caul, the man Abe saw during his death-vision at the end of Plague. The man he may very well have been before becoming what he is now. Some deep emotional memories are unsurfaced from the depths.
