There are some beginner tips in here (what pins to use, what scissors to use), but nothing about sewing machines, so I would probably place this in the intermediate range--for sewists who have made several garments before and like the mix-and-match patterns included here. I can't see myself making/wearing any of these 5 particular bodice styles (some of which don't even appear to fit the tall/skinny models all that well), but I know there are a lot of Victory Pattern fans out there. The instructions/tutorials are beautifully photographed, but are not as complete or comprehensive as Gertie's New Book for Better Sewing, which remains my be-all, end-all pattern-sewing reference. Basic construction techniques are included (centered zips and invisible zips, attaching skirt linings and waist stays, etc.) but nothing about full-bust or small-bust adjustments, for example. It is also left up to the reader how to create and attach a particular pictured sash/belt.
Buy/borrow this if:
* you like the styles showcased in the lookbook app: https://victorypatterns.herokuapp.com/
* you are tall/skinny or are willing to put the work into adapting the patterns to your measurements (she shows you how to lengthen/shorten and adapt your own pattern to your measurements, but if your body is trickier to fit, it may take some trial and error)
* you know your way around sewing garments from patterns (there are instructions, but beginners may require more help and some of the finishing details can be time-consuming).
* you are OK with printing out your own patterns (via pdf files on the attached CD-ROM) ( )
