what the Flark did I just read? I picked this up because Groot and Rocket are my favorite guardians and I heard it was a good "space western" comic but I did not expect to be moved by this charming epic bromance between Rocket and Groot but I was! This book is funny and genuinely moving; I had tears in my eyes at the end of the last issue. I wholeheartedly recommend it to anybody who has ever read a comicbook. This is proof of what the medium is capable of. Also, I AM GROOT. ( )

That was just adorable. I thought I had sworn off Guardians of the Galaxy comics, because I could never figure out where the beginning of the story was. Turns out the key is to just read the books for teens. Heh.
If you love Groot and ever wanted to know how it is that Rocket Raccoon understands what he's saying, take this for a spin. I loved the appearance by the Silver Surfer and Dawn Greenwood, who affectionately lets him know when he's "surferizing." The hapless trio of Skrull were pretty hilarious too.

An amusing diversion made worthwhile by the meet-cute flashback for Groot and Rocket and the "Wolverine: Alone!" homage (X-Men #133, 1980). ( )

Hmmm. Really don’t know what to say about this graphic novel / comics collection starring a talking tree with limited vocabulary, and a perpetually irritated Rocket Raccoon.

Clearly I’m not the target audience, but I think I see the appeal. The illustrations are colorful and advance the action. I particularly like how Brian Kesinger gives Groot so many emotions in the illustrations. On the other hand, I was quickly bored by the repetitive “I am Groot” with Rocket or other characters supplying the rest of the dialogue. Reminded me a little of those comedy sketches Bob Newhart was so good at, where you hear only one side of the conversation, but clearly understand the other half.

Oh well, it satisfied a challenge and took my mind off my troubles for an hour. ( )
