Fiction. Science Fiction. Something big is coming ... big enough to destroy the entire solar system ... and it's heading straight for Earth. That's what Dr. Ben Rollins, head of Harvard's exoplanet research team, is told by NASA after being dragged out of bed in the middle of the night. His first instinct is to call his daughter and wife, who are vacationing in Italy: something is coming, he tells them, a hundred times the mass of our sun. We can't see it, we don't know what it is, but it's there. They're calling it Nomad, and it's coming fast. In just a few months, the earth may be destroyed. The world erupts into chaos as the end approaches-and Ben discovers that his wife and daughter are trapped in Italy. Doomsday thriller or romance and redemption novel? The astronomical cataclysmic proposed by the author is reasonably well researched. No obvious blunders committed. The cast of characters is fairly developed, sort of. The main character, if not exactly likable, does have something going for her (something murky and undefinable😅)
That brings me back to the various subplots that involve our leading character which are a major part of the package the author presents us with, yet somehow never quite manage to connect to the looming end-of-days scenario.

From the official book description: "A story of family and redemption set amid a brand new kind of cataclysm..."
Perhaps this was the intention of the writer, but perhaps carried away by the "sub"plot(s) the result is asking for a revised vice-versa formulation in the manner of "a brand new cataclysm set amid a story of family and redemption"

Perhaps the end of days should be the all-defining event of the story, consuming more of the storyline, getting more of the attention of the characters within. Be that as is may, this isn't my novel and, quite naturally, not all will agree with my observation.
In the end, I deem "The Nomad" readable and the author's 342 page effort is duly appreciated. ( )

An exciting read about the impending end of the world, with some good twists thrown in. The story did drift at times but in general it was a good read. ( )

read it not realizing it's the first in a series so i kept waiting for the resolution and it didn't quite make it. i will read the next one, though. also, the female protagonist is such a badass, it's kind of a shame she's like a lovesick puppy throughout the book for a guy she just met. but if you like "romance" mixed in with your science fiction, end-of-the-world type novels then read this. Weekend in Italy or the end of the World?

What conceit man has to think he is unaffected on this small planet Earth. A smashingly good story running the gamut from old Italian feudal families mixed up with secret scientific cabals. When a leading astrophysicist whose paper on dark matter was declined for publication is suddenly called to an emergency meeting, little does he know the chain of events have already irrevocably started.
As he dashes across the world, so does his daughter, for different reasons. Drawn to the Tuscan region of Italy by a mysterious Facebook message, she and her Mother are involved in a web of deceit going back generations.
The two stories, like two trains on one track, accelerate towards each other as the scientists grapple with the inevitability of the imminent destruction of our planet. Or is it? Stay tuned for book two for further information. ( )

Too much "Taken"-style vendetta nonsense, not enough earth getting destroyed by black holes. ( )
