Nice quick read showing one possible interpretation of a modern British Empire that was never stopped from expanding. Some interesting time travel issues, although nothing truly new to the genre. In short, it was a fun diversion from all of the 900 pagers I've been reading lately. ( )

The book was well written with an interesting story. But the world without the independence of usa is completely fucked up and doesnt even have cars???
I have nothing against usa, in fact I think it is a pretty good country.
But bitch please, they are not the only developed nation and the world would be just fine without it...
Great book for subscribers of the subredit MURICA ( )

Mind bendingly awesome and surprisingly optimistic. I considered reading while walking just so I could read more. ( )

If you are going to do a time travel story.. you need to have some rules to keep thing interesting. Rules such as, don't change things in the past, avoid all contact with yourself, can't travel to the same place twice... that sort of thing. This book violates all of them, and not only that.. but it is vital to the plot to do so.

The beginning of the story is somewhat reminiscent of Harry Potter... Kid with talents is whisked away to a special school to learn talents that no one else knew existed. Then it turns into a fish out of water story of the kid trying to figure out Southern California society while avoiding bad time travellers.

This is part of a series, unsure if I would continue reading it... maybe if they become free like this one was on Amazon. ( )

It's a little bit "The Giver", a little bit "Ender's Game", and follows a "Hunger Games" formula. A kid from the lower-caste gets "chosen" to be a time-traveling researcher. When he accidentally hucks up the timeline, he's faced with the choice of whether to keep the new timeline (which seems better for humanity but erases everything and everyone he ever knew) or stay with the status quo. As you can tell by the transparent influences, the idea and characters are nothing new.

Yet, the novel kept my interest. At least until the time travel got too confusing. And it does get confusing -- worse than Doctor Who. If you thought Back to the Future Part II was bad, you will not like this novel. Even I lost track, and I love time travel. At one point there are, like, five of the main character in a given location in time, half of them are there to revoke mistakes the other made. Couldn't keep it straight. And rather than try to figure it out, I just stopped caring. The main character's personality is just a little too dry for me to stay invested in (he conveniently falls in love within two days time).
