This book is about a little girl who is having trouble sleeping, so she tries to count the sheep, but realizes that they're asleep. She then goes on to ry to count several different animals, but comes to realize that all the animals are sleeping. Finally, she gets to sleep while trying to count the animals. This book is in the genre of realistic fiction because she is having trouble going to sleep and tries her hardest to get to sleep. It is very realistic for children to have trouble going to sleep. All of the animals are in her imagination. Age appropriateness: intermediate ( ) In a sweet rhyme, with just one to two lines of text for each double-page spread, a small child and her teddy bear try to count animals to fall asleep - but the only ones asleep are the animals. At last the child falls into slumber with all of the animals peacefully looking over him/her/they. A sweet, simple bedtime, rhyming story. In my opinion, the book "When Sheep Sleep" is a good bedtime story for young readers. While there isn't much of a plot line to this story, I think a child who is just learning to read would enjoy this book. Something that I find appealing about this book is the fact that it rhymes. The rhyming and word choice create a soothing tone to the story especially since it is about bedtime. For example, one page reads, "Count the puppies on pillows instead of the sheep, all cozy and cuddled, they curl up to sleep." The words "puppies", "pillows", "cozy", "cuddled", and "sleep" all give the feeling of a comfortable environment that would probably calm a child down and hopefully put them to sleep. The illustrations also add to this story as they show all of the different animals sleeping and snuggled together. For example, one page has deer sleeping together in the forest, and another has cats sleeping on the sofa. The illustrations are also in softer color tones, and some even have the moon in it to give that night time feeling. The big idea of this book is to use other things than counting sheep to help children go to sleep. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione
